“Nobody Can Stop Me From Visiting Any Part Of Nigeria” — Peter Obi Reacts To Alleged Assassination Threat

Former Governor of Anambra State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has declared that no individual or group can prevent him from travelling to any part of Nigeria, stressing that freedom of movement is a constitutional right for every citizen.

Obi made the statement while reacting to a recent incident in Benin City as well as comments circulating on social media cautioning him against visiting certain parts of the country. He spoke during a visit to Peter University, Achina, in Anambra State.

Reaffirming his position, Obi insisted that as a Nigerian citizen, he is entitled to move freely across the country without intimidation.

“I am a Nigerian and I am free to go to any part of this country. It is a constitutional right that nobody can take away from me,” he said.

He revealed that despite warnings advising him not to travel to Rivers State, he still honoured a prior invitation to the state shortly after the Benin incident.

The former governor also disclosed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that he remains committed to contributing to Nigeria’s democratic process.

“I’m not desperate to be the President of Nigeria, but I’m determined to see Nigeria work,” he said.

According to Obi, Nigeria urgently needs reforms that will create opportunities for citizens and strengthen national institutions.

“We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.

Speaking further, Obi explained that his decision to leave the Labour Party for the ADC was influenced by internal leadership disputes within the party, as well as concerns over how court judgments relating to the crisis were handled.

He noted that those developments ultimately prompted him to seek another political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
